Because I easily get emotional indigestion
if I don’t chew and swallow every feeling thoroughly,

I’ve developed a habit of slowly digesting
both sorrow and love.

Only after fully absorbing even the most delicate and fragile breaths of emotion does it truly feel like mine—
like it belongs to my life.

I draw, write, and create to express everything I experience in that process.

Reading Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse,
I was finally able to free myself from the long-standing grip of pessimistic nihilism.

And yet, I still live as the young soul
who once wore a middle school uniform and wept
while reading Wear Your Pajamas by Lee Do-woo.

There was a time when I wanted to live like Suzuko
from One Million Yen Girl, always on the move.

I wished that every face I encountered after stepping outside would be unfamiliar—

that life as a stranger among strangers,
living in anonymity, would bring me peace.

So I ran, with all the strength I had.

But perhaps foolishly, I came to love too many things.

Now, I don’t think I could live alone, leaving them behind.

I’ve become a clumsy adult,
unable to bear both the comfort of anonymity
and the unease of being unknown.

So I’ve made up my mind to stay—
close to the people I love,
doing the work I love,
sharing the conversations I cherish.

I love things that are tender and delicate.

And I admire all the time and silence
one must endure to become that way.

Like the quiet hours spent moving fingers
in silence to embroider,

or the moment of arranging your heart carefully
to write a letter, choosing the right postcard with care.

I collect things that are no longer easy to find—
vintage buttons, thread, fabric—

and I love imagining the possibilities of a new world
I could create with them.

When I feel lonely, I listen to the songs of Heo Hoy-kyung
.
